U.K. News

UKFFFA’s first national conference in London in January,  brought together active campaigners from around the country. The day included presentations from the current coordinators and viewing a selection  of the best films  from current and past experts. The  major event was a ‘World Cafe’ type discussion,  a format that allows everyone to have their say on how fluoridation can be prevented and existing schemes terminated. A summary of the outcomes of the discussion have been circulated to all participants, and a number of the activists are meeting in April to decide the next steps. The issues to be considered will include:

How should the UKFFFA undertake the role of a national anti-fluoridation  organisation?

What is its purpose and what are its values and ethics?

How should it be structured an how should it be financed?

What should be the most immediate campaign issues?

How should it tackle the many other  tasks  should it be undertaking – and , or course, who is going to do the work?

There was plenty of support and enthusiasm for a  new approach to working together to obtain the results we all want –  an alliance of people who want a UK free from fluoride.

More of the  decisions and plans will be  on this page  over the next few weeks. Supporters are welcome to send any comments via the ukfffa web site and to read and post to the  Facebook page safewaterinformation.org

Meanwhile, those unable to come mihgt like to have a floavour of he day by vieing some of the films selected  for viewing , either oin part or whole. All of these are freeely availble – just follow the links

LETTER: Fluoride toxicity is entirely preventableSend your letters to editorial@southernstar.ie

SIR – Speaking on RTÉ’s ‘Today with Sean O’Rourke’ last Thursday (February 1st), Tánaiste Simon Coveney made a point that politicians are lawmakers, and he reiterated that the function of the Irish State and constitution is to protect the rights and welfare of unborn children as well as the mother.

Yet, paradoxically, Irish politicians as lawmakers, remain the only politicians in Europe that support government legislation that mandates every citizen or resident in this State must consume fluoride through mandatory fluoridation of drinking water supplies.

In the current debate on the repeal of the 8th Amendment and guaranteeing the right to life of the unborn child, it is important to note that the current weight of evidence show that environmental exposure to fluoride effects many organs including the reproductive system. In particular, fluoride has been found to be associated with reproductive disorders, including infertility, low birth weight and neurotoxicity in offspring.

The most recent study published in September 2017 in the peer-reviewed journal, Environmental Health Perspectives, by a team of investigators at the University of Toronto, McGill, the Harvard School of Public Health, and other institutions found an association between prenatal exposure to fluoride and cognitive development disorders in children.

This study affirms that prenatal fluoride toxicity is an entirely preventable problem and that by working to reduce exposure and by reducing its unnecessary use, it is possible to remove fluoride exposure as a factor that limits children’s opportunities to reach their full potential.

As artificial fluoridation of drinking water is enacted by national legislation in Ireland and the mandatory ingestion of fluoride is undertaken without consent, perhaps the Government might allow a second referendum so that the public may vote on whether they wish to ingest this toxin.

Since most of Local Authorities in Ireland, including Cork City and County Councils have already voted for the abolition of water fluoridation in this State and their democratic vote has been ignored by this Government, it’s time that the public had a say on this highly-controversial and outdated policy.

Dr. Dickson and Dr. Limeback ‘s  OpEd includes: fluoride’s impact on IQ, the costs of the practice versus the potential benefits, and the ongoing concerns about fluoride’s effect on IQ and the cost of fluoridation that far exceeds its claimed benefit

3 Second major setback for EPA in fluoride lawsuit under TSCA

From FAN : Court rebuffs attempt to limit scope in review of citizen petition  A federal judge has handed the US EPA its second defeat, in a lawsuit that could end up setting precedent for how the judiciary handles citizen petitions for chemical regulation under TSCA.

Learned comment from the National Law Review

and FAN’.s comment    from, Michael Connett, This court’s decision highlights for environmental groups that Congress created a powerful tool.”

4 The Second in-Utero IQ Study

This study by Valdez Jiménez et al. was published in March 2017 in the journal Neurotoxicology and titled: In utero exposure to fluoride and cognitive development delay in infants.    Results: The authors state, “…Our data suggests that cognitive alterations in children born from exposed mothers to F could start in early prenatal stages of life.”

 5 The Bashash study

FAN’s comment  It is difficult to overstate the importance of this study, especially since it was funded by these U.S. agencies: National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and the EPA.

And part of a further comment to the New York Times Science Staff on their indifference to Fluoridation

… the study by Bashash et al. (2017), funded by U.S. government agencies has… reported an astonishing loss of 5 to 6 IQ points which correlated with fluoride urine levels ranging from 0.5 and 1.5 mg/L in pregnant mothers. These are the same levels in adults reported in U.S. communities with fluoridated drinking water (0.6 and 1.5 mg/L)…
